Dear Students and F&M Community,

CEC would like to be as transparent as possible with the student body. Whether we return to school or not, Spring Arts 2020 has been officially cancelled as a preventative measure against COVID-19. One thing that is clear from the College’s decision to extend spring break and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines is to avoid large events. Particularly due to the cancellations of Coachella, SXSW, and Ultra Miami among other music festivals and concerts, we at CEC feel that it would be irresponsible to hold an event the scope of Spring Arts this semester.

If you know any of us personally, you know that we truly live by the saying “the show must go on”. Truthfully, we’ve been looking forward to the headliner and supporting acts of Spring Arts 2020 for several months now, and it pains us that the hard work all the members of CEC have dedicated to the event will not come to fruition. However, Coronavirus is a public health concern and CEC, along with the College at large, cannot afford to endanger students, faculty, and professional staff as well as the outside artists, vendors, security guards, and other staff required to put on an event of Spring Arts’ scale.

Lastly, we would like to thank the seniors who have dedicated so much of their college careers to CEC — Kat Miao, Surya Rahman, Zach Epps and Jake Rauchberg. We are so sorry that this is the way their time on CEC is concluding, and we are sorry to anyone that was looking forward to Spring Arts 2020. Please believe that we are right there with you.

Sincerely,

The College Entertainment Committee E-Board
