Sean Flaherty ’73, professor of economics, will succeed current Faculty Don Kathleen Triman as the next don of Weis College House. Triman served a year as interim don in Weis five years ago and as the don for Schnader/ Weis College House for the last three years.

“I have enjoyed working with students, especially in the Assembly of Peers, which is the Weis College House government,” Triman said. “In addition, I have taught first-year seminars within the house. As a don, getting to know students outside the classroom was so important, along with the planning of academic events for the house. Planning these extra activities for students was very rewarding. I am very grateful for this opportunity to work so closely with students.”

Next year, Triman will take a sabbatical to focus on her research. She is the curator of the online Ribosomal Mutation Database.

Flaherty is looking forward to his new post.

“I am intrigued by the idea of the house system,” Flaherty said. “I like to do other things besides teaching economics, and this seemed like a good area to be involved.”

He previously acted as the director of the service-learning program at the College. As a don, he is anticipating teaching a first-year seminar in the coming years. Furthermore, he is excited for the extracurricular programming that is now his responsibility.

“This different kind of interaction I’ll have with students is going to be a new experience,” Flaherty said. “I’m getting older, and before I retire I wanted to try something new and different. On sabbatical, I missed teaching and working with students. Professor Triman is going to be a hard act to follow, but I am looking forward to it. I am excited about the new possibilities, and I plan on learning a lot in the first semester I take on this responsibility.”
