The F&M women’s soccer team is currently leading the Centennial Conference…in games tied. The Diplomats record stands at an abnormal 2-4-5, with nearly half of the games ending in a draw, and six of the 11 games requiring the maximum two overtimes to determine the outcome.

Though the Dips are winless in the month of October, the team has had a great deal of defensive success, holding its opponents to an average of just under one goal per game. The defensive unit is spearheaded by Amanda McGowan ’14, who was a first team selection on last year’s All-Centennial Conference team. McGowan has defended the net extremely well this season, holding F&M’s opponents scoreless on four
occasions.

On Oct. 13, the Diplomats recorded draw number five of the season, as F&M and Muhlenberg College’s battled through 110 minutes of play, with neither team able to find the back of the net.

F&M’s offense struggled, putting together 10 shots, just two of which were shots on goal. Nancy Epstein ’14 provided a spark for F&M with a team high three shots, but to no avail, as the Mule defense halted F&M in its tracks. With the tie, Muhlenberg moves to 4-2-1, putting them in fourth-place in the Centennial Conference.

McGowan, Epstein, and the rest of the team will look to have a strong finish as the regular season comes to a close. Believe it or not, the team only has four games left during the regular season, three of which are Conference competition, against Washington College, Gettysburg College, and Dickinson College.

At the conclusion of the season, the team will lose five seniors, however have gained six first-years this season. The team is composed of five seniors, nine juniors, eight sophomores, and six first-years. With so much young talent, the team is likely to really come together in seasons ahead, and make a push towards the Centennial Conference Championship.

F&M will face Richard Stockton College on Wednesday Oct. 17, in a non-conference competition, followed by the last home game of the season against Washington College Saturday Oct. 20 at 3 p.m.
