Have a book you’ve been meaning to read but struggling to find time to read it? Come to the new silent book club! It’s a set-out time to wind down, relax, and get some non-school reading done (though, of course, you’re welcome to read for school!)
Called ‘silent’ because it involves no conversion, no collective book-choice, Silent Book Club is a wonderful opportunity to take a deep breath and center yourself before the chaos of the school week truly sets in. With soothing music, the fireplace flickering, and the comforting din of other readers, there is no better place to pick up that book you’ve been telling yourself you’ll read. I mean, how can you deny yourself the spectacular soundscape that is “You Fell in Love with a Writer, so You’ll Never Die. #darkacademiaplaylist” on YouTube.
Senior Olivia Schmid, founder, said that “I feel like all of my friends are chatting about either wanting to start a book or being in the middle of reading something but having no time to read, so I figured why not give us a space where we can read together.” The first meeting of Silent Book Club was Monday, February 26th from 7:30-9 pm in the Writers House. We hope to meet every two weeks(ish), allowing for the fact that life does sometimes complicate even the best laid plans.
The next meeting of Silent Book Club will be Monday, March 18th from 7:30-9 pm in the Writers House. We hope to see you there!
