This past Saturday, the men’s tennis team downed McDaniel College 8-1 in conference play here in Lancaster. About halfway through the season, the Dips have an overall record of 4-4, but remain tied for first place in the conference with a record of 3-0.

The top three doubles teams trounced their opponents and are worthy of particular merit. The number one doubles team of Ross Silverberg ’13 and William MacArthur ’14, as well as the number two doubles team of Tommy Weibye ’14 and Nolan Bacchieri ’15 each defeated their opponents 8-1. The number three doubles team, Cameron Relic ’13 and Peter Bookman ’13, also emerged victorious with a convincing 8-2 win. In singles matches, MacArthur, Eric Rouff ’12, Kazuhiro Tomioka ’15, Samuel Stone ’13, and Tim Bellford ’12 also contributed to the big win over McDaniel.

The team is particularly young this year, and will only lose two players to graduation. This could prove to be a good thing in the years to come. The team currently has a healthy balance of veterans and youngsters, including six juniors, four sophomores and two freshman — clearly next year will be a big year for F&M men’s tennis, with twelve of fourteen returning.

The Dips have done a lot to prepare for this season, including a team training trip over spring break. From March 12 to March 16, the team traveled to Orlando, Florida where they competed against teams from all over the country, including Valparaiso University and North Carolina Central University.

In terms of the rest of the season, the team is looking to remain consistent. Many of the important Centennial Conference matches are coming up, and it will be a busy month for the team, who have conference matches against schools like Gettysburg College, Muhlenberg College, and Dickinson College. The team’s next challenge will come against Johns Hopkins this Tuesday, followed by Swarthmore at home Apr. 7. The team would love some encouragement and support, and they have requested that some noise be made come Saturday.
