Singer/actor Joe Jonas filed for divorce against his wife, actress Sophie Turner, after being married for four years, with the help of a reliable family divorce lawyer. The pair had dated for about three years before getting married, and have two children together. Family law experts can help those are also filing for divorce and seeking spousal support Illinois from their partners.

Despite a few days of rumors on social media, it was a shock to all on September 6, 2023, when they confirmed their divorce through matching Instagram posts.

“After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” Jonas and Turner said.

Of course, rumors as to why they were getting divorced ensued. There has been a lot of speculation about whether or not it’s due to the welcoming of their second child, their careers, lifestyles, etc.

A source told TMZ that the split was Jonas’s last resort after months of issues and that it was due to the fact that, “She likes to party, he likes to stay at home.”

This quote sent the internet over the edge, attacking Jonas for what seemed to them like an attempt to misogynistically bash Turner as a mother.

“I’ve never seen a PR campaign backfire as spectacularly as Joe Jonas’s divorce era. Really thought that 90s misogyny was gonna play well in the press, in this, the year of our Lord and Saviour Greta Gerwig? I think not,” one X (formerly known as Twitter) user wrote.

Jonas made his thoughts on these rumors known during one of his recent concerts with his band, the Jonas Brothers.

“I just wanna say, look: If you don’t hear it from these lips, don’t believe it,” Jonas told the audience.

In this case, it’s Jonas that’s receiving most of the hate and backlash, mostly due to an unknown source’s comments on their relationship. Turner hasn’t received much hate, due to the fact that she’s been pretty silent following the announcement, but social media users are using her old posts to help their point.

In an Elle interview in 2020, Turner said, “I’m an introvert; I’m a homebody.” People on the internet are using this quote, among others, to prove that Jonas’ agenda about her being a partier is incorrect and an attempt to sway public opinion of her.

The aftermath of this divorce filing has been somewhat messy on the internet, despite it being “amicable”, and Jonas has dug himself a pretty deep PR hole that he must get out of. Couples who are also dealing with divorce should prioritize parental responsibilities and the interests of their kids.

Cases like these bring to light many opinions on celebrities’ privacy and whether or not it is fair to question their relationships. No matter where you stand on that, it must be acknowledged that the internet is bound to have thoughts due to the fact that they are high-profile celebrities and they have been together for a while.
